For He made Him who knew no sin to become sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. – 2 Cor. 5:21 (NKJV)
We are all sinners and there is no way around it. We come into this world with our backs to God – to all that is good and pure and holy. We are in quite the predicament; one that we cannot fix or change in our own power, or even band-aid for any length of time. We needed a Savior from the beginning.
As a child growing up in the church, I assumed for many years that “I have always known Jesus” or that “I had always been saved.” What a deception that the enemy will grab hold of and keep one away from the truth of true salvation in Christ. When I was told that I was believing a lie, my pride was first embarrassed and then I was completely humbled at the feet of my Lord and Savior. Even after coming into relationship with Jesus, the enemy tried to keep me questioning this very belief; that after having accepted Jesus at 10, there was nothing more to do. Don’t worry! Jesus didn’t leave me there. Instead, He took that lie and showed me where truth lies – in God’s holy Word and in a true relationship with Him.
God loved His creation – us – so much that He sent His one and only Son to die for all who will believe (para John 3:16). Jesus – our perfect Savior – knew no sin, but “became” sin for us so that when we believe in Him, we are not condemned for our sins – past, present, and future. He went to the most brutal death possible… the Roman cross – while we were still sinners. While we still hated Him, He paid the ultimate price for each of us without argument and without discussion. He laid down His life for you and for me. Why? As 2 Cor. 5:21 says… “that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” In Christ, we are made whole and found to be righteous.
Have you truly given your heart and life completely to Christ? Do you know my Jesus? Do you know the One who died for you so you could live eternity with Him? Have you been made whole?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I need You. Come into my heart today and make me whole. Protect my heart from the attacks of the enemy that I may serve You with all that I am. I pray in the beautiful, holy name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior… amen.
